South Carolina’s “Sober or Slammer” DUI Crackdown During the Holidays

Notice to all South Carolina drivers: The holidays are here and that means the office holiday, Christmas and New Year’s party season is in full-swing.  As a result, the number of impaired drivers on our roads will be increasing exponentially over the next several weeks.  In response to the statistically proven uptick in drunk driving during the holiday season, the state has reintroduced the Sober or Slammer campaign.

According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, the Sober or Slammer program is statewide DUI enforcement, public information and education campaign.  The SOS program’s goal is to reduce alcohol related accidents, injuries and deaths through a decrease in impaired driving.  State and local law enforcement agencies, including those in Charleston and Berkeley Counties, will join forces to accomplish the program’s objectives.  The enforcement efforts also include a public education campaign regarding the severe consequences of an arrest for DUI.  Keep an eye out for Sober or Slammer commercials over the next month.

What does this mean for you?  This means that your local police force and authorities will be on the hunt for impaired drivers even more so than usual.  Miller|Conway strongly urges you to refrain from drinking and driving.  Please call a cab or institute a designated driver policy.
